Federal judge Hellerstein, who presided over the Maduro case, has died
In New York, federal judge Alvin Hellerstein has died at the age of 92. He presided over the case against Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, who was captured by the United States in January 2026. A court hearing in the case is scheduled for June 1, 2027; the impact of the judge's death on the proceedings remains unclear.
