Creation of Cyprus branch of Israel Allies Foundation sparks political scandal
The announcement of the creation of a Cyprus branch of the pro-Israel lobbying group Israel Allies Foundation triggered a conflict between parties. Six MPs from DISY, DIKO and ELAM announced the establishment of the branch, having earlier set up a branch of Transatlantic Friends of Israel. The left-wing opposition AKEL called the moves 'highly provocative' and accused parliament of turning into an Israeli lobby, while also criticising the government of Nikos Christodoulides.
