European Commission urged EU residents to prepare on their own for the first 72 hours of an emergency
The European Commission recommended that EU residents not rely on state assistance during the first 72 hours after an emergency and assemble emergency kits in advance. The recommendations were presented by European Commissioner Hadja Lahbib; they are voluntary in nature. It has also been proposed to mark an EU Preparedness Day annually on 23 October, starting in 2027.
