Residents and businesses in Devon and Cornwall are taking safety measures ahead of Storm Austin, which, according to the Met Office forecast, will bring gusts of up to 80 mph (130 km/h) and heavy rain from Thursday evening. A yellow warning has been issued and upgraded to amber for Friday.
Sevara AzamovaA Plymouth diving team, Gasperados, identified the German submarine U-672, scuttled by her own crew in July 1944 after an attack by HMS Balfour. The boat was discovered in August 20 miles off Salcombe at a depth of about 70 metres. All 52 crew members survived. Due to a clerical error, the logbook coordinates were recorded roughly 74 km from the actual site, so the find only became possible 82 years later.
