Kyrgyzstan to abolish regions and districts: about 20 counties will replace them
Kyrgyzstan's authorities are preparing the second stage of the administrative-territorial reform: all seven regions and 40 districts are to be abolished and replaced by more than 20 counties. The first stage began in 2023, and in April 2026 President Sadyr Zhaparov announced a pilot experimental county.
