Pope Leo XIV cancels trip to Assisi on doctors' advice during recovery from surgery
The Vatican announced that Pope Leo XIV will not travel to Assisi next week: doctors recommended refraining from a helicopter flight during his recovery from thoracic surgery for lung cancer. Instead of attending the meeting marking the 40th anniversary of the World Day of Prayer for Peace, the Pope will send a message to participants. Doctors noted that a follow-up X-ray confirmed good recovery, and no further treatment for the cancer is required.
