Autumn holidays have begun

Russian schoolchildren who study by quarters have started their holidays. According to RIA Novosti, citing recommendations from the Ministry of Education, the break will last nine days — from October 26 to November 3. Since November 4 marks National Unity Day, students will get an extra day off because of the holiday.

The holidays have become shorter

It was previously reported that in the 2026/27 school year, the holidays for schoolchildren studying by quarters will be one day shorter than in the previous year. The total duration of the autumn, winter, spring and summer holidays for students in grades 2–11 will be 126 days, whereas in the previous school year they had 127 days off. The winter holidays will last 11 days — from December 31 to January 10.

Context

Earlier, there were reports that Russian schoolchildren were to be sent to digital detox camps. For families with children studying by quarters, the practical significance of the current news is that the break has already begun and will last until November 3 inclusive, and taking into account the holiday on November 4, the school schedule will resume only after National Unity Day. At the same time, the reduction of the total number of holiday days by one (126 versus 127) means that the academic workload will be distributed slightly more densely during the school year, although the difference is minimal.
