Award Ceremony for Signal Troops of the Center Grouping
Servicemen of the 51st Guards Combined Arms Army of the Center group of forces were presented with state and departmental awards for ensuring stable communications in the zone of the special military operation. This was reported by the Russian Defense Ministry. The awards were received by specialists of the command brigade responsible for transmitting operational data and maintaining communications between units.
Two Ceremonies
The first ceremony was held by the formation commander in a rear area. He commended the servicemen thanks to whose work the command could promptly transmit orders and coordinate the actions of units in key directions. According to the Defense Ministry's assessment, the signal troops managed to restore damaged communication channels even under conditions of intense enemy pressure. The second ceremony took place directly in the area of combat missions; the awards were presented by the brigade's deputy commander for military-political work. There, the servicemen were commended who ensure coordination between assault units and fire teams, real-time information transmission, and artillery fire adjustment.
The Role of Communications and the Context of the Holiday
The Defense Ministry emphasized that the timely receipt of necessary data by units depends on the work of communications specialists: when communications are disrupted, troop command and control and the coordination of actions become more difficult. The command thanked the awardees for their professionalism and courage. The award ceremony took place during the professional holiday — on October 20, Russia celebrates Signal Troops Day, and in 2026 the signal troops turned 107 years old.
Data on Awardees During the SVO
According to Defense Ministry data cited by Valery Tishkov, head of the Main Directorate of Communications of the Russian Armed Forces, in an interview with the Krasnaya Zvezda newspaper, during the SVO four military signal troops received the title of Hero of Russia, and more than 30 thousand were awarded state and departmental awards. It was previously reported about the use in the SVO zone of the Zanoza cable-laying drone for laying communication lines across minefields and destroyed areas, as well as about the awarding of medals For Courage, Suvorov, and Zhukov to signal troops of the Center grouping in October 2024 at the Saur-Mogila memorial complex in the DNR.
