On the initiative of the President of Uzbekistan, in accordance with his decree PQ-209 of June 5, 2024, the Cinematography Agency under the Ministry of Culture has commissioned the RAMZ-FILM studio to produce the historical film “Shiroq”. The film tells the story of a national hero who gave his life for the freedom and independence of his homeland.
Plot and historical basis
According to the publication, Shiroq fought the enemy not only with weapons, but also with cunning, courage and self-sacrifice. Presenting himself as a man who had suffered at the hands of his own kinsmen, he led the vast army of the Achaemenid ruler Darius deep into a waterless desert and, sacrificing his own life, doomed the invaders to destruction, saving his native land from the invasion. The historical legend of Shiroq is contained in the work of the ancient Greek author and military historian Polyaenus, “Strategemata” (“Stratagems”); the film’s screenplay is based on this source.
