A call for technological independence

Jaume Sanpera, CEO of Spanish satellite operator Sateliot, told Euronews in an interview that Europe needs to “wake up” so as not to become dependent on two global centers of power. In his view, the industry needs a “push” that would help European technology companies become global champions.

On sovereignty in space

Sateliot is developing a constellation of communications satellites in low Earth orbit (LEO). The company recently launched five new satellites. As Sanpera noted, Europe “needs to have its own sovereignty in space.”

On regulation and values

In the fast-developing industry, concerns about excessive regulation persist. At the same time, Sanpera believes that Europe has “its own values,” which should be reflected in artificial intelligence and other technologies.
