Russia strikes Kharkiv and Kyiv: at least five dead

On the night of October 13, Russia launched a large-scale attack on Ukraine. Kharkiv mayor Ihor Terekhov reported three deaths and 11 injuries, with residential areas in Kholodnohirskyi and Shevchenkivskyi districts hit, including a four-story building whose entrance was completely destroyed. Rescue operations continue as people may be trapped under rubble. On the evening of October 12, Kyiv was attacked with ballistic missiles and drones; a drone struck a 25-story building in the Darnytskyi district, killing two people and injuring 11. The deceased were identified as a 59-year-old woman and another person near a car by the damaged building. The Ukrainian Air Force stated it could not issue an early air raid warning due to delayed data on missile launches from Russian territory, with ballistic targets detected by radar only at the moment of the attack on Kyiv. The reasons for the incident are under investigation.
