Five days of arrest for words said to a colleague
In the Muzrabot district of Surkhandarya region, a 59-year-old school teacher was arrested for five days for harassment of a colleague — a Daryo correspondent reviewed the court decision. The incident took place at around 15:00 on October 3 at one of the secondary schools: the teacher, identified in the case materials as U. K., approached a colleague and, in the presence of other teachers, told her: “What a beautiful dress you have, I’ll hug and kiss you right now.”
What the court established
At the trial, the woman said she felt deeply ashamed before her colleagues because of those words. According to her, the man had made similar remarks before, but she had not filed any complaints until then. “After that incident, the colleagues who were nearby advised me to contact the relevant authorities. That same day I came home and told my mother what had happened. I was crying and felt unwell,” the outlet quoted her as saying. The man admitted guilt and said he had said these words as a joke. The court found him guilty under Part 1 of Article 41-1 of the Administrative Liability Code (sexual harassment) and sentenced him to five days of administrative arrest.
Similar cases in other districts
Daryo recalls two similar cases. In the Kumkurgan district of Surkhandarya region, a school teacher was sentenced to five days of administrative arrest for harassing a colleague via Telegram. In addition, in the Yangibazar district of Khorezm region, a doctor was arrested for three days for sending text messages of a sexual nature to a nurse he worked with. Thus, in all three cases known to the outlet, the harassment was directed at a workplace colleague, and the punishment was short-term administrative arrest — five days for the teachers and three for the doctor.
