Ronaldo said farewell to the national team

Cristiano Ronaldo has ended his career with the Portugal national team, Gazeta.Ru reported. On social media, the 41-year-old forward wrote: “Today my journey on the football pitch with the national team comes to an end. All my life I strove to be the best in the world. Today I realize that my greatest victory was the honor of representing the best country in the world.”

Conflict with the coach in October

His departure from the national team was preceded by a conflict with head coach Jorge Jesus during the break for the October matches. Ronaldo did not appear in the Nations League match against Norway by the coach's decision, and after a press conference at which Jesus did not guarantee him a place in the lineup for the game against Denmark, the footballer missed the last three training sessions and left the national team's camp without permission — he headed to the airport and flew out on his private plane. His retirement from the national team had been reported earlier, before the player's farewell statement.
