A mountain trail as a testing ground
On November 2, 2026, the CMG World Robot Mount Tai Challenge competition was held in Tai'an, Shandong Province, bringing together nearly 90 teams, as reported by Euronews. Humanoid, quadruped and exoskeleton robots climbed a 3.9 km section of an ancient mountain trail: the route included 3,100 stone steps and an elevation gain of 600 meters, as well as steep slopes, long staircases and sharp turns.
What was being tested and who reached the finish
The uneven stone steps and steep climbs tested the machines' ability to maintain balance and navigate difficult terrain. In front of spectators, the machines climbed the mountain, and several of them managed to reach the finish line. Some quadruped robots also carried supplies of provisions along the route. In this way, one of China's most famous mountain trails turned into a testing ground for robotics, and the event brought together teams showcasing the latest achievements in research and engineering.
