The key facts
- Gasoline reserves at Uzbekneftegaz oil depots are 2.5 times higher than last year's; the filling station network has grown from 31 to 152 stations since the beginning of the year
- The company guarantees fuel availability only at its own stations, not across the entire market
- The planned gasoline reserve for December–January has been increased by government decision to 120,000 tons, up from 65,000 tons a year earlier
Reserves and filling station network
Uzbekneftegaz has built up reserves of motor gasoline at its oil depots that are 2.5 times higher than the level of the same period last year. This was announced at a press conference on October 27 by the company's deputy chairman for processing, Abrorjon Khudoyberganov, reports Gazeta. According to him, the company's own filling stations are supplied with fuel for the coming winter season, and product sales volumes have grown five- to six-fold since the beginning of the year. The company's network has expanded from 31 stations at the start of the year to 152. The stations offer AI-92 and AI-95 gasoline, as well as several types of diesel fuel, including Euro-4 and Euro-6 standards. 'Over the past 9–10 months, the price of gasoline has not exceeded 12,000 sums,' the deputy chairman assured.
Guarantees only for its own filling stations
The company's press secretary, Mumin Ibodov, specifically clarified that the statements concern exclusively Uzbekneftegaz filling stations, and not the country's entire fuel market, where other major players, including private entrepreneurs, also operate. Thus, the company did not guarantee the absence of queues and gasoline shortages at all filling stations in the republic during the winter. This is significant for motorists: in Uzbekistan, restrictions at methane CNG stations have been imposed repeatedly during the cold season — several times during the 2025/2026 heating season, including in December 2025 against the backdrop of reduced gas imports from Turkmenistan, when, according to the Ministry of Energy, the daily deficit reached 6 million cubic meters, and from January 19, 2026, when methane stations were closed to private vehicles for two weeks. When methane availability decreases, some drivers switch to gasoline, increasing the load on the petroleum products market.
Modernization and plans for the season
The growth in the number of operating filling stations is ensured, in part, by the restoration and modernization of facilities in the regions: about 90 new fuel dispensers have been installed, and 10 stations in Tashkent and the Tashkent region have been modernized with new metering and remote monitoring systems. Through its situation center, the company tracks fuel stocks, sales volumes and prices. In January–September 2026, Uzbekneftegaz produced 773,500 tons of motor gasoline, fulfilling the plan at 100.2%. Preparations for the season are proceeding according to plans presented in July 2026 to President Shavkat Mirziyoyev: a gasoline reserve of 120,000 tons is provided for December and January, compared with 65,000 tons a year earlier.
Context of the filling station sale
The expansion of the company's own network came after, in November 2023, Uzbekneftegaz sold a network of 78 filling stations, UNG Petro and the Chinaz oil refinery to Danial Kamalov's Petroleum Technology Group; the network was later renamed Carvon. According to the state company's financial statements, the value of the two assets amounted to 453 billion sums; the deal was concluded without a public announcement of bidding, and the change of ownership became known only in March 2024. In October 2026, the head of the State Assets Management Agency, Sokhibjon Murodov, rejected accusations of 'hidden privatization,' noting that the sale had been conducted through direct negotiations with the involvement of international consultants, but acknowledged that information about the privatization process had been insufficiently transparent.
