Meeting at NATO Headquarters

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte and European Commissioner for Defence and Space Andrius Kubilius discussed military mobility, defence production and continued support for Ukraine at a meeting on Wednesday at the alliance's headquarters in Brussels. As reported by the Anadolu agency citing a statement by the alliance, Kubilius addressed NATO member states' ambassadors in the North Atlantic Council and outlined his priorities: increasing military readiness, expanding weapons production and sustained support for Ukraine.

Military mobility as a key issue

Military mobility became one of the central areas of cooperation: the ability to move troops and equipment within and across Europe is considered critically important for NATO's deterrence and defence. To this end, according to the alliance, regulatory obstacles must be removed and appropriate infrastructure must be provided for potential military transport. Kubilius outlined the work done in this area, while Rutte welcomed the progress in NATO-EU cooperation, noting that additional efforts are needed for military readiness.

Support for Ukraine

On the Ukraine issue, Rutte positively assessed the EU's decision to provide a loan to support Ukraine (the Ukraine Support Loan), whose funds are channelled into assistance through the list of Kyiv's priority needs coordinated by NATO (PURL). According to the alliance, the programme continues to deliver key military equipment to Ukraine, including air defence systems. The statement did not mention any new decisions or timelines resulting from the meeting.
