Support package worth €300 million
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky said on Thursday evening that Ukraine and Finland signed agreements worth a total of about €300 million ($336 million) during the visit to Kyiv by Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo. According to him, seven documents were signed that expand cooperation opportunities. The statement was made at a joint press conference following talks with Orpo, who arrived in Kyiv the same day.
Drone agreement and the SAFE program
Zelensky noted that the agreement with Finland on drones is already being actively implemented and includes measures worth €200 million. According to him, this is an important beginning and a strengthening of the defense capabilities of Ukraine and Finland. The parties also discussed joint work within the European SAFE program — an EU financial instrument providing member states with loans of up to €150 billion with a long repayment period to accelerate joint defense procurement. Ukraine is asking Finland to help ensure agreements on joint production.
Satellites and other areas
Zelensky said that an agreement was reached on more active use of Finland's satellite capabilities, and the prospects of cooperation with Nokia and ICEYE were discussed — the latter he called the world leader in sovereign space intelligence. He also thanked Finland for its readiness to support Ukraine's logistics and energy sectors and expressed special gratitude to Helsinki for supporting Kyiv's European integration.
Contact with President Stubb
Zelensky recalled that on Tuesday he met with Finnish President Alexander Stubb in Oslo; the talks concerned security, defense, and diplomacy issues. According to him, Ukraine continues regular contacts with Helsinki and other partners.
