The key facts
- Copenhagen Airport temporarily introduced additional checks at the request of the Danish Civil Aviation and Railway Authority
- About 200 Norwegian Air Shuttle passengers missed flights on Thursday evening
- Norwegian said it had not received advance notice of the new procedures
Queues and passengers left behind
New security procedures led to long queues at Copenhagen Airport on Thursday, resulting in about 200 passengers missing their flights. The airport brought in extra staff for screening, and a large passenger flow worsened the situation.
The cause — an order from the authorities
According to the Danish Civil Aviation and Railway Authority, an inspection revealed problems requiring the airport to temporarily introduce additional security checks. The authority did not disclose further details, reports Danish public broadcaster DR.
Reaction of the airport and the airline
The airport's communications director, Lise Agerley Kürstein, noted that the new requirements coincided with busy travel days, including Swedish passengers setting off ahead of the autumn holidays. Norwegian Air Shuttle's country manager in Denmark, Sara Nørgaard, said that about 200 of the airline's passengers missed departures in the evening. According to her, Norwegian had not received advance notice of the new procedures or the expected queues, and she urged passengers to arrive at the airport well in advance. Nørgaard also expressed concern about Friday morning, when 16 Norwegian flights were scheduled to depart from Copenhagen.
