The key facts

Antonelli speaks about his title chances
Mercedes driver Kimi Antonelli admitted on Thursday that to fulfil the dream of the first championship title of his career he needs a 'perfect weekend' at the United States Grand Prix. The 20-year-old Italian could become the youngest champion in Formula 1 history and the first Italian champion since Alberto Ascari (1953) if he wins Sunday's race and his closest rival and teammate George Russell fails to finish in the top 8. Additionally, seven-time champion Lewis Hamilton of Ferrari must finish outside the top 4.
The driver's own words
'If you think about it — it's crazy,' said a smiling and relaxed Antonelli at the press conference at the Circuit of the Americas. 'For me it would have to be a perfect weekend, and everyone else would have to have a poor result, which is unlikely. Of course, anything can happen, and thinking about it is crazy. This morning we had a meeting and we said: 'just enjoy it' — so we have the same mindset as all year. We're taking it one race at a time, I'm just trying to do my best every weekend, and then we'll see.'
Hamilton praised the young driver
Seven-time champion Lewis Hamilton, who gave up his Mercedes seat to Antonelli when moving to Ferrari, spoke warmly about the Italian's talent and overall mindset. When he, as a multiple champion, was asked whether he had any advice for the young driver on the verge of glory, Hamilton smiled and replied: 'Slow down!'
