The key facts

  • Bournemouth — 3 wins in 3 Europa League matches, a 3:0 thrashing of Milan after Mike Maignan's early red card
  • Juventus let victory over Rennes slip: John Lucumí's 88th-minute goal ruled out by VAR for offside
  • Leverkusen and Ferencváros have 9 points each; Sunderland drew 1:1 in Poznań

Bournemouth sensationally thrash Milan

Bournemouth earned a home 3:0 win over a Milan side playing with ten men and won their first three Europa League matches. Milan's goalkeeper and captain Mike Maignan was sent off early in the match for a foul on Tyler Adams, after which the team never recovered. Justin Kluivert and Marcus Tavernier converted penalties in the first half, and Amine Adli scored a beautiful free kick in the 84th minute. Earlier, Bournemouth beat Real Sociedad away and Sturm 3:0 at home. The club became the first English team since Sunderland in the 1973/74 season to win their first three European matches in their history. In November, the opponents will be Sparta and Celta. “It means a lot. We believe in ourselves, no matter who we play,” Kluivert told TNT Sports.

Juventus denied victory by VAR, Sunderland fail to hold on for the win

Juventus could not beat Rennes at home: Zeki Çelik opened the scoring in the 5th minute, Mousa Al-Tamari equalised after a poor clearance, and before the break Boulaye Dia put the visitors ahead. Nick Woltemade restored parity from the penalty spot, awarded for a handball, while VAR ruled out John Lucumí's 88th-minute strike for a contentious offside. Sunderland, in their pink kit, drew 1:1 in Poznań: Timur Tuterov scored in the 2nd minute, but Régis Le Bris's team failed to hold on for the win, although with two home matches ahead they retain a chance of reaching the next round. Crystal Palace, after a 0:5 thrashing by Brighton, drew 2:2 with Beşiktaş in Istanbul, while Celtic lost 1:2 to Celta — a third consecutive defeat.

Leverkusen and Ferencváros on nine points

Bayer, thanks to a brace from Jonas Hofmann, beat OFI in Crete 2:0 and also collected nine points from nine. Ferencváros have the same number after thrashing Torrense 4:1. Union Saint-Gilloise won 4:0 away to Hapoel Be'er Sheva. Union, Sunderland and Juventus have seven points each. Marseille lost 0:1 to Sturm, while Lyon were thrashed 0:3 by Hoffenheim.

Conference League: results

In the Conference League, former Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah opened the scoring from the penalty spot in Trabzonspor's 2:0 win over Scottish Hearts. Brighton drew 0:0 with Czech Jablonec, Monaco thrashed Freiburg 3:0, and Ajax beat Atalanta 2:0.
