Results of the contest held since 1953

Japan has announced the results of the annual Nikkor photo contest, which has been held since 1953. Both amateurs and professional photographers take part in it. The competition covers several categories, with cash and other prizes provided for the winners.

Top prize — for an underwater shot

The top prize was won by Mayumi Takeuchi of Kanagawa Prefecture. She took the winning shot underwater, using a wide-angle lens, a sturdy waterproof camera housing, and a flash. During the shoot, the distance between the photographer and the jellyfish was less than one meter. The jury described this frame as a “miracle.”

The Nature category

The Gold award in the Nature category went to Koichi Ikeda of Fukuoka. He managed to capture two flying owls at a moment when the birds look like reflections of each other in a mirror. According to Nikon, the shot was taken with a super-telephoto lens with a focal length of 800 mm.
