Bush Family Members Back a Democrat
Two members of one of Texas's most famous Republican families have spoken out in support of Democratic U.S. Senate candidate James Talarico, highlighting a split within a political dynasty traditionally associated with the Republican Party. Talarico is running against Republican Ken Paxton.
Barbara Bush's Donation
Barbara Bush, daughter of former U.S. President George W. Bush, donated $2,500 to the political committee Lone Star Rising PAC, which supports Talarico. This follows from the committee's third-quarter 2026 report filed with the Federal Election Commission. According to Houston Public Media, the contribution is dated September 23.
Neil Bush's Support
Barbara's uncle, Neil Bush, publicly endorsed Talarico, writing on Facebook that he voted for the state legislator in his fight against Paxton. According to him, the decision stems from concern over Paxton's record as Texas attorney general and respect for Talarico's approach to public service.
Criticism of Paxton and the Republican Party
“I see in him the qualities I value most in public servants: integrity, courtesy, humility, and a willingness to listen to those he disagrees with,” Neil Bush wrote. He criticized Paxton's efforts to challenge the results of the 2020 presidential election in other states, calling them an affront to democratic institutions and the peaceful transfer of power. Paxton was impeached by the Republican-controlled Texas House of Representatives in 2023 but was acquitted by the state Senate. Bush also expressed concern that loyalty to individual political leaders has come to prevail over principles within the Republican Party, while emphasizing that he continues to value traditional Republican ideals. “Character matters more than party affiliation,” he added.
