Optimus production launch
Tesla announced on Wednesday that it has begun production of Optimus humanoid robots at its plant in Fremont, California, on production areas previously used for manufacturing electric vehicles. In its third-quarter shareholder letter, the company stated: “The robots coming off this line are the first production robots we have made,” adding that the current production process is suitable for a commercial product, although the company will continue to refine the hardware and production.
Third-quarter financial results
Tesla's revenue for the quarter was $28.04 billion — slightly below the $28.09 billion a year earlier and about $200 million less than the previous quarter's figure ($28.23 billion). Net profit fell 43% to $787 million versus $1.37 billion in the third quarter of 2025. The company attributed this to rising spending on artificial intelligence projects and the Optimus robot, as well as a decline in regulatory credit sales.
Electric vehicles, energy and services
The bulk of revenue came from electric vehicle sales — about $20 billion, unchanged year over year. Tesla delivered 486,532 vehicles — roughly 6,000 more than in the previous quarter, but fewer than a year earlier. The solar energy and energy storage business shrank 16% year over year to $2.8 billion — the company explained this by customer refunds related to tariffs. The services segment, including Full Self-Driving driver assistance subscriptions, grew 33% to $4.6 billion and delivered a record $734 million in gross profit for the “services and other” category.
