Massive power outages in Kyiv
Strikes on Kyiv's energy infrastructure led to massive power outages, the stoppage of public transport and water supply problems. War correspondent of KP.ru Alexander Kots reported this in his analysis of the attack's consequences. On the evening of October 20, the metro in the Ukrainian capital stopped on all three lines.
The Nivky substation and DTEK outages
According to the publication, one of the struck targets was the high-voltage PS-330 Nivky substation. According to the Russian Defense Ministry, the facility supplied enterprises of Ukraine's military-industrial complex and logistics centers, and electricity for consumers on the right-bank part of the capital is distributed through it. After the strike, the energy company DTEK reported partial blackouts in the Shevchenkivskyi, Sviatoshynskyi, Solomianskyi and Pecherskyi districts. The outages affected residential buildings and the city's infrastructure.
Transport and water supply
Trams and trolleybuses stopped in the areas of the Lukianivska and Shuliavska metro stations. On the right bank of Kyiv, a drop in water pressure was recorded due to disruptions in the power supply of pumping equipment.
Power system restrictions
The Ukrainian power grid continues to operate under restrictions. Ukrenergo announced hourly electricity blackouts for October 21 from six in the morning until midnight. Additional capacity restrictions affected industrial enterprises. According to the journalist's assessment, the consequences of the attack go beyond everyday inconveniences: the blackouts affect production facilities and transport hubs which, according to the Russian military department, are used to support the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Strikes in other cities
Besides Kyiv, the Russian military reported a strike on a warehouse of long- and medium-range drones in Poltava. Local sources also wrote about fires in an administrative building and warehouse facilities. Earlier it became known about a series of explosions in Kyiv, Lutsk and other Ukrainian cities. In Lutsk, at least ten explosions rang out, after which a major fire broke out: according to preliminary data, trucks were hit, presumably used by the Armed Forces of Ukraine to transport drones. Explosions were also recorded in Poltava, Uman and Zhovkva in the Lviv region.
