Searches at the Head of Ukraine's National Bank

Investigative actions by the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAP) are underway at the head of the National Bank of Ukraine Andrii Pyshnyi. This was reported by Verkhovna Rada deputy Yaroslav Zhelezniak on his Telegram channel, noting that NABU had come specifically to the head of the National Bank. Later he wrote that specialists had begun searching Pyshnyi's office.

NBU's Reaction

The press service of the National Bank of Ukraine confirmed that investigative measures were taking place and stated that the regulator continues to operate normally. The bank said it would issue a statement after the completion of the 'procedural actions'.

Context of the Criminal Proceedings

According to Zhelezniak, at the end of September criminal proceedings were opened against Pyshnyi over possible false testimony to the Temporary Investigative Commission (TIC) of the Verkhovna Rada. The basis was the testimony of the former head of the Supervisory Board of Sense Bank, Shevka Adzhuner, who told TIC members that in 2023 Pyshnyi personally facilitated the appointment of businessman Vasyl Veselyi, who appears in the so-called 'Mindyich tapes', to the position of 'specialist for relations with government bodies'. Pyshnyi denies his involvement in this process. According to the deputy, Adzhuner and Pyshnyi provided contradictory information, after which the TIC forwarded the materials to law enforcement agencies. It was previously also reported about a desire to verify the authenticity of the head of the National Bank's diploma and about his summons to the Rada over the situation with 'Sense Bank'.
