  • Maria Zakharova stated there were no political reasons for the ban
  • Rospotrebnadzor cites non-compliance with quality and safety standards
  • The restrictions affected products of Teliani Veli, Tbilvino, Brothers Askaneli and others

Statement by the Russian Foreign Ministry

The temporary restrictions on the import of drinks from Georgia are not caused by political reasons. This was stated at a briefing by Maria Zakharova, official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry. “There is no political motive. I think these are all just some speculations,” the diplomat noted.

Reasons for the restrictions

On October 10, it was reported that drinks and alcohol produced in Georgia began to be withdrawn from sale. As the reason for suspending sales, Rospotrebnadzor cites the products’ non-compliance with standards for organoleptic and physicochemical parameters, as well as safety indicators.

Which products were affected by the ban

The temporary ban covered alcoholic products of Teliani Veli JSC, Tbilvino, the Georgian Beer Company, Brothers Askaneli LLC, as well as Nabeglavi mineral water from the producer Healthy Water and Coca-Cola drink from Georgia.

Restrictions concerning Armenia

Earlier, the import and circulation of Armenian Jermuk mineral water was also suspended. Rospotrebnadzor introduced this temporary sanitary measure in order to prevent possible harm to the life and health of Russian citizens.
