Tusk accused the US president of expensive fuel
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk made a sharp statement in the Sejm, placing personal responsibility on the US president for the high cost of fuel for the country's citizens. According to him, Warsaw has 'no doubts whatsoever' that the politician from Washington 'bears responsibility for this.' Tusk also reproached opposition deputies for 'blind worship' of the overseas leader instead of supporting their own leadership.
Fuel prices in Poland and the EU
The head of the Polish cabinet emphasized that the republic maintains one of the lowest motor fuel prices in the European Union, yet current prices remain unbearable for ordinary drivers. At the same time, as Life.ru notes, the official provided no specific evidence or mechanisms of American influence on Poland's domestic market, and the question of how exactly the White House provoked the price increase went unanswered.
Statement against the backdrop of Putin-Trump talks
The accusations came after telephone talks between Vladimir Putin and the US president, following which, as the outlet writes, the parties agreed to return diesel supplies from Russia to the global market. The American administration temporarily froze part of the restrictions until April. Moscow expressed readiness to promptly ship 300 thousand tons of petroleum products with the prospect of increasing volumes. The Polish leadership, according to the outlet, took these maneuvers painfully.
Context on prices in Europe
It was previously reported that gasoline in the Netherlands rose to a record €2.727 per liter. According to UnitedConsumers, the previous historical maximum was recorded on September 25, when fuel became 1.5 euro cents more expensive in a single day. Before the escalation of the situation in the Middle East, a liter of gasoline in the country cost almost €0.50 less. It was also reported that in Germany, at a price of about €2.5 per liter, gas stations began shutting off pumps due to fuel theft.
