The key facts
- Peskov: 'Nothing has changed. We need peace, not a truce'
- A full settlement is impossible without the participation of Kyiv's representatives
- The Kremlin has not yet studied the report on the consequences of suspending Armenia's membership in the EAEU
Position on the energy truce
Kremlin press secretary Dmitry Peskov said at a briefing in St. Petersburg on Wednesday that Russia's position on a possible energy truce with Ukraine has not changed. 'Nothing has changed. We need peace, not a truce,' he said, answering a question about whether Moscow's position had changed.
The need for Kyiv's participation
Peskov emphasized that a full settlement of the Ukrainian conflict is impossible without the participation of Kyiv's representatives. 'Of course, it is impossible to fully resolve the Ukrainian issue without the participation of someone from Kyiv. Therefore, someone in Kyiv must make a responsible decision. This is necessary,' the Anadolu agency quoted him as saying.
Comment on Stubb
Responding to statements by Finnish President Alexander Stubb, who repeated the common European position on Ukraine, Peskov said this is unlikely to become a constructive contribution to the settlement. According to him, if Stubb can make a constructive contribution, this can be assessed positively, but if he merely repeats the common European position, it is unlikely to become a constructive contribution.
Report on Armenia's EAEU membership
Touching on the report of the Eurasian Economic Union's Intergovernmental Council on the possible consequences of suspending Armenia's membership in the EAEU, Peskov said the Kremlin has not yet studied the document. Earlier, the press service of the Russian government published a joint report by the governments of Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan 'On the possible consequences of suspending the application of the Treaty on the Eurasian Economic Union of May 29, 2014 with respect to the Republic of Armenia,' which examines the impact of suspending Armenia's membership on the country's economy.
