Epidemiologist on the mechanism of virus transmission
The monkeypox virus can spread by airborne droplets, but close contact is required for infection. Epidemiologist, RAS Academician Gennady Onishchenko told aif.ru about this. “Monkeypox is transmitted by airborne droplets, but in the case of this virus this route is difficult,” the expert noted. According to him, the risk arises during close interaction, for example during kisses or when people are face to face. Onishchenko also noted that the fatality rate of this disease is low.
Situation in the Moscow region
Earlier, the Health Ministry of the Moscow Region reported the hospitalization of five people who had contact with a patient with suspected monkeypox. According to media reports, they all lived in the same apartment. Later, tests of all five residents of the Moscow region showed a negative result.
