The key facts

  • It is best to submit a connection request as soon as the moving date is known: connection takes from 1 day to 5 business days after signing the contract and payment.
  • In new buildings, the network may be launched only after keys are handed over to residents, so the wait is sometimes longer.
  • The main connection technologies: GPON (fiber to the apartment), FTTB (fiber to the building, then copper cable) and the outdated ADSL.

When to Submit a Connection Request

The outlet Kun.uz notes that home internet when moving is usually remembered last — when the furniture is already arranged and the child needs to connect to an online lesson. In such a situation, the provider is often chosen in a hurry, based on advertising or a neighbor's advice, and then people live with that choice for years. Connection takes time: the provider must check whether its network is present in the building, agree on a day for the technician's visit, and send a specialist. In new buildings, the wait is sometimes prolonged — the home network may be launched only after apartment owners receive their keys. If the contract is signed and payment has been made, it takes on average from 1 day to 5 business days from submitting the request to connection. The outlet recommends submitting the request as soon as the moving date is known, not after moving your belongings. Those who already have internet are advised to ask their provider about the possibility of transferring the connection to the new address — this is usually easier than signing a new contract.

Which Connection Technology Is Used

According to Kun.uz, the technology determines how the internet will work in the evening, when all household members are online, although this is rarely asked about. The outlet describes three options. GPON ('fiber to the apartment'): optical fiber is run directly to the apartment door; such a connection withstands the load of many devices simultaneously and allows increasing the speed if necessary. FTTB ('fiber to the building'): optical fiber goes to the building, and the signal is carried through the floors via copper cable; it works reliably, but the speed may drop when the entire building entrance is connected to the network. ADSL — a connection over a telephone line, the oldest of the three technologies: it was sufficient for one computer, but is no longer suitable for an apartment where dozens of devices are connected to the internet. In new buildings, optical fiber is often laid at the construction stage. The outlet advises finding out from the developer or the management company which providers are available in the building and how they connect apartments.
