Exhibition Opening at the Moskovsky Railway Station
On October 21, the ceremonial opening of the exhibition 'Sambo — National Heritage of Russia' took place in the Light Hall of the Moskovsky Railway Station in St. Petersburg. The organizers were the International SAMBO Federation (FIAS) and the Sambo History Museum. The exhibition will run until November 20.
Dedicated to Two Events
The exhibition is connected with two landmark dates: the historic 50th SAMBO World Championship, which will be held in Tashkent from November 6 to 8, and the 90th anniversary of domestic sambo, which will be celebrated in 2028. Visitors will be able to explore a historical-documentary section tracing sambo's path from its origins in the USSR to its status as one of the fastest-growing martial arts in the world.
Ceremony Participants
The opening was attended by FIAS head Vasily Shestakov, Honored Masters of Sport of Russia — two-time world and European combat sambo champion Denis Goltsov and world and European sambo champion Ruslan Gasymov — as well as representatives of the railway and sports organizations: Deputy Head of the Oktyabrskaya Railway Igor Lobko, Deputy Head of the Northwestern Regional Directorate of Railway Stations Sergey Ryazantsev, and Head of the St. Petersburg Separate Division of the RFSO 'Lokomotiv' Boris Vasilyev.
Shestakov's Statements
Vasily Shestakov noted that today sambo is developing in more than 140 countries, uniting millions of people, and invited martial arts fans to the 50th World Championship in Tashkent. He emphasized the symbolic choice of St. Petersburg: the city has hosted sambo world championships three times (in 2003, 2008, and 2013), and in 2021 the FIAS President's Cup was held there for the first time. According to him, the St. Petersburg exhibition became the first joint project of FIAS and the new Sambo History Museum, officially established in Moscow at the International Sambo Center in October 2026.
