Fourth witness's testimony
A woman who claims Russell Brand sexually assaulted her described the incident as 'frenzied' and 'violent'. On Tuesday, jurors heard testimony from the fourth of six complainants in the case. According to her, the incident took place in the mid-2000s at the Choice FM radio studio in central London. Brand, who is 51, denies all seven charges against him: three counts of rape, three counts of sexual assault and one count of indecent assault. The allegations from six women span a ten-year period from 1999 to 2009.
Description of the incident
The witness, speaking from behind a blue screen, said she came out of a small room in the building and saw Brand. According to her, he said 'oi oi', grabbed her face, began kissing her and pressing his body against hers. She described the kiss as 'wet', 'very, very rough' and said his hands 'were everywhere': he touched her buttocks and breasts while pressing against her with his whole body. 'I used the word
Answers to the defence's questions
When asked by the defence barrister why witnesses to the incident did not express concern, the woman said: 'It wasn't the environment it is today.' According to her, at that time there was no culture of telling others about such things. When asked why she did not go to the police, she replied: 'I would have thought about several things. Who would have believed me? I could have lost my job, and I had a mortgage.' She added that she 'buried' what happened inside herself for a long time and after the incident felt 'dirty', as well as being 'shocked, stunned, shaken'. She told no one about what happened.
Brand's position and the course of the trial
The witness said she decided to come forward after watching a documentary about Brand and his alleged behaviour. Brand has pleaded not guilty to all counts and stated that any sexual contact, if it occurred, would have been consensual. Earlier in the trial, the prosecution described him as a 'sexual predator'. The trial continues.
