Course of the match
In the Matchday 3 game of the UEFA Champions League league phase at the Sukru Saracoglu stadium in Istanbul, Fenerbahce and Slavia Prague drew 2:2. The hosts, looking to make amends for the heavy 0:6 defeat to Aston Villa last week, started actively and took the lead as early as the 4th minute: Oguz Aydin cut inside from the right flank to the center and curled the ball with his left foot from outside the box into the top left corner — goalkeeper Jakub Markovic got a touch but could not save it. In the 11th minute Nelson Semedo found Mason Greenwood free in the box, and the English striker made it 2:0 with a powerful strike from inside the area.
Gendouzi's error and the first half
Slavia responded four minutes later, capitalizing on a mistake by Matteo Gendouzi: after a goal kick, Ederson received the ball, but the French midfielder played an inaccurate pass straight to Slavia captain Lukas Provod, who went one-on-one and coolly beat the Brazilian goalkeeper — 2:1. Chances kept coming before the break: Gendouzi shot just wide of the post in the 28th minute, Aydin hit the side netting in the 37th, and Vedat Muriqi, before halftime, after a cross from Archie Brown, forced Markovic to save from a tight angle. The teams went into the break with the score 2:1 in favor of the hosts.
Second half and the comeback
In the 63rd minute Fenerbahce brought on Romelu Lukaku and Dorgeles Nene, and the substitutions nearly led to a third goal: Lukaku won the ball high up the pitch and crossed for Nene, whose powerful shot Markovic parried with an excellent jump. The visitors gradually increased the pressure: in the 80th minute Ederson reacted to an Ayoshi shot, two minutes later Lukaku fired over the crossbar from a tight angle, and late on Slavia defender David Zima tested Ederson with a long-range strike.
The 90th-minute goal and the outcome
It seemed Fenerbahce would hold on for the win — their first in this Champions League campaign — but in the 90th minute Ayoshi found space on the right and crossed into the box, where Pavel Kachor, who had come on as a substitute just five minutes earlier, nudged the ball into the net, completing the visitors' comeback — 2:2. After the matchday, Fenerbahce have two points from three league-phase matches, while Slavia earned their first point in the league phase.
