Business council meeting in Samarkand
On October 19, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev took part in the opening of the second meeting of the American-Uzbekistan Business and Investment Council. The event was also attended by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Special Representative of the US President Sergio Gor, as well as representatives of leading American companies and banks. Mirziyoyev emphasized the symbolic significance of discussing new cooperation opportunities in Samarkand — a city that for centuries has united peoples, cultures, and trade routes.
Assessment of the level of relations
According to the president, relations between Uzbekistan and the US have reached a qualitatively new stage, which, as noted, is primarily connected with the personal attention and support of US President Donald Trump. Mirziyoyev emphasized the need to further expand economic ties on the basis of strong political partnership. A special role in advancing joint projects is assigned to the business and investment council.
Reforms and investment
The president focused on the large-scale reforms in Uzbekistan: a growing economy, the launch of new enterprises, job creation, and the expansion of educational opportunities for young people. He noted that attracting investment for the development of industry and modern infrastructure should go hand in hand with the implementation of advanced technologies and the exchange of knowledge. Hundreds of companies with American capital operate in the country, cooperating in industry, energy, transport, agriculture, education, and new technologies. Uzbek companies, in turn, are also beginning to invest in the US economy.
Priority areas
Promising areas for expanding cooperation were named as follows: the development of important minerals and the production of high-tech products based on their deep processing, the development of modern and sustainable energy, the creation of data centers, the implementation of artificial intelligence and digital solutions in industry, agriculture, education, and public administration, as well as cooperation in the field of education and personnel training.
