Proposal to accelerate the introduction of ID cards

President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyov on October 19, at a meeting with Foreign Minister of Tajikistan Sirojiddin Muhriddin, proposed accelerating the implementation of the system for crossing the border between the two countries using ID cards. “We also need to accelerate the implementation of the border crossing system using ID cards. After all, cargo transportation volumes are growing, and there is a real need to resolve this issue,” the press service of the president quoted the head of state as saying. Muhriddin arrived in Uzbekistan to participate in the meeting of foreign ministers in the C5+1 format.

Bilateral relations and joint projects

The parties considered further deepening relations of friendship, good neighborliness, and alliance in the context of implementing agreements at the highest level. Mirziyoyov and Muhriddin noted the growth of mutual trade and cargo transportation, as well as the active phase of joint projects in energy, industry, agriculture, and water management. The president emphasized that relations with Tajikistan have been of particular importance to him since the first days of his presidency, and noted the great work being done to strengthen bilateral ties.

Mirziyoyov's quote about kinship ties

“In the past, the borders were closed. There was neither the trade turnover of today nor such close relations. Deep down, I was very worried about this. In Uzbekistan and Tajikistan, there are practically no families not connected to each other by kinship ties,” Mirziyoyov said, according to the press service of the president.

Other topics of the meeting

The parties also discussed intensifying cultural, humanitarian, educational, and tourist exchanges, as well as current issues of the regional agenda. At the beginning of the meeting, Sirojiddin Muhriddin conveyed to Mirziyoyov the greetings and good wishes of the President of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon. Spot.uz also recalls that it previously reported on the growth of demand for export cargo transportation from Uzbekistan by almost 30% over the quarter.
