FSIN denied reports about the sewing production

The story that the convicted blogger Arsen Markaryan learned the profession of seamstress and made his own prison uniform has not been confirmed. This was reported by the Tver Regional FSIN of Russia in a comment to TASS. The reason was publications about Markaryan's life in Correctional Colony No. 4 in the city of Torzhok: according to media reports, the blogger could not be provided with a uniform in his size, which is why he allegedly took up sewing clothes himself. The regional FSIN department called this information false and emphasized that the convict has no problems with the issuance of clothing.

«Employed in another position»

«The convict is fully provided with clothing, does not work in the sewing production, and is employed in another position», the FSIN reported. The department's representatives did not specify which position Markaryan holds.

The case and the verdict

Markaryan was taken into custody on August 23, 2025, after being detained in the Moscow region. The basis for criminal prosecution was a video recording he published, accessible to an unlimited circle of users. According to the investigation, the video, posted no later than February 25 of the same year, contained insults to the memory of the defenders of the Fatherland. The verdict in the case was issued in March 2026. According to Life.ru, the court refused to soften the punishment: the First Appellate Court upheld the verdict of the Moscow City Court — four and a half years in a general regime colony, and also banned the blogger from administering internet pages for four years after release.
