Draft put up for discussion
The Customs Committee of Uzbekistan has prepared a draft document allowing individuals to automatically process passenger customs declarations. The document has been published on the portal for discussion of regulatory legal acts (SOVAZ) and is currently at the discussion stage — comments and proposals are accepted until October 25.
How automated processing will work
It is proposed to add the concept of automated processing to the instructions for filling out and processing passenger customs declarations. It will be performed by the customs authorities' system based on special algorithms, without human involvement. In this case, the digital signature of a customs officer will not be required.
Restrictions
Automated processing will be available only for declarations to which the Customs Committee's risk analysis system has assigned a low risk level. The declaration must not contain information about currency valuables, goods prohibited from import or export, or goods subject to mandatory declaration.
Context
Earlier, Spot reported that the Ministry of Economy and Finance proposes to charge additional customs payments when the value of imports is overstated.
