The couple's announcement
Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten and his partner, Argentine field hockey player Nicolás Keenan, announced on Monday that they are expecting their first child. In an Instagram post, the couple wrote: 'Someone very special is already on the way. See you in 2027, little one.' They also thanked the egg donor, the surrogate mother Lisa, and their families: 'Without you, none of this would have been possible.'
Details from the D66 party
Jetten's party D66 issued a statement clarifying that the pregnancy was made possible thanks to a couple of friends who already have children of their own. 'The surrogate mother is Dutch, as is the egg donor. This is not a case of commercial surrogacy. The surrogate mother and the egg donor are acquaintances of Jetten and Keenan. They are happy to help two future fathers fulfil the dream of a child,' the statement said. Lisa herself noted: 'Being a surrogate mother is a very special way to help our dear friends fulfil their dream.'
About Rob Jetten
Jetten was born in 1987 in Veghel in the south of the Netherlands and grew up in the neighbouring Uden. He studied at the Nijmegen school of management and then began his career at ProRail, the organisation responsible for maintaining the country's railway infrastructure. In 2017 he became a member of the lower house of parliament for D66, and later served as Minister for Climate and Energy Policy in the government of former Prime Minister Mark Rutte, who is now NATO Secretary General. The couple announced their engagement to Keenan in November 2024.
