Victory on home soil

Chinese golfer Yin Ruoning won the LPGA tournament in Shanghai, defeating South Korean golfer Choi Hye-jin, who had led after three rounds, by one stroke. In the final round at the Sheshan golf club course, the 24-year-old Yin played four strokes under par (68), finishing the tournament with a score of 11-under. This is her seventh title on the LPGA Tour and her second victory in Shanghai — she first won this tournament in 2024. Yin's previous start on the tour was a victory in August at the FM Championship in Boston.

Course of the final round

Choi Hye-jin began the final day with a two-stroke lead over Yin and had led after all three previous rounds, contending for the first LPGA title of her career. However, consecutive bogeys on the seventh and eighth holes wiped out her lead. Supported by the home crowd, Yin gained momentum: four of her five birdies came on the last nine holes. A confident birdie putt on the 17th essentially decided the outcome of the tournament.

The winner's reaction

“This tournament means everything to me because you get a chance to play in front of family, friends and amazing fans. It's just amazing,” Yin said. Marking the victory with a restrained fist gesture, she compared her emotions to the jubilation after her victory in Boston two months ago: “I still have emotions, but this time very calm, calmer than at the FM. I think winning at home is a dream come true, and I think I was lucky to win it twice. I hope this is just the beginning.”
