Statement on the term of office
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi said on Saturday that his presidential term will end in 2030, the state newspaper Al-Ahram reports. '2030 will be the end of my presidential term. This matter is fully settled,' he said at a graduation ceremony at the Egyptian Military Academy in the New Administrative Capital.
The constitution will not be changed
Sisi stressed that Egypt's constitution 'will not be touched' and noted the need to prevent any violation of constitutional and democratic principles. According to him, the constitution defines the role of the armed forces in protecting the constitutional order, democracy and the foundations of the state. 'I will not leave the Egyptian state until it is filled with its own people capable of bearing responsibility,' he added, noting that a new generation of leaders is being trained at the Military Academy.
Statements on Saudi Arabia
Sisi also said that Egypt is ready to take any measures Saudi Arabia may request to protect the security and sovereignty of the kingdom. 'We will take any measures to protect Saudi Arabia,' he said, adding that if such a request is made, he will turn to parliament with a proposal to convene an extraordinary session to authorize such actions. 'We stand firmly in defending and protecting the territories of our brothers in the Gulf,' the president concluded.
