Rout at the Allianz Arena
Bayern routed RB Leipzig 6:1 on Saturday in a Matchday 6 Bundesliga game at the Allianz Arena and moved to the top of the table. Luis Díaz opened the scoring in the 12th minute, finishing a Joshua Kimmich pass with a shot past goalkeeper Maarten Vandevoordt. In the 26th minute Aleksandar Pavlović doubled the lead after a pass from Díaz, and in the 34th minute Michael Olise made it 3:0 after a one-two with Harry Kane.
Second half and Díaz's hat-trick
After the break Díaz scored his second goal in the 47th minute, finishing a Kane pass. In the 53rd minute Kane made it 5:0, scoring in his 100th Bundesliga match — according to AFP, he also provided two assists and was substituted before the hour mark. In the 69th minute Díaz completed his hat-trick after a pass from Olise. Andrija Maksimović scored a consolation goal for Leipzig in stoppage time.
Reactions and context
Bayern captain Joshua Kimmich praised Díaz, who had not scored in his previous four league matches: 'Lucho has been criticised this season, but today he was excellent. Definitely the hero of the hour.' Bayern coach Vincent Kompany, according to AFP, watched from a chair due to a hip problem and outwitted his former Manchester City teammate — Leipzig coach Martín Demichelis. 'You can come here and lose, but not like that,' Demichelis told Sky Germany. According to AFP, Bayern have won their last three matches against Leipzig with an aggregate score of 17:1. On Wednesday Bayern will host Arsenal in the Champions League, while Leipzig will play Real Madrid.
Table and other matches
The win moved Bayern onto 14 points after six matchdays — first place on goal difference, above Borussia Dortmund (Leipzig have 10 points). Dortmund earlier on Saturday drew 0:0 with Union Berlin — the first goalless result in the history of meetings between the clubs. Serhou Guirassy missed a chance 11 minutes from the end, and Dortmund substitute Konstantinos Karetsas suffered an injury described by AFP as serious. 'We hope it is not too serious,' said sporting director Ole Büker. Waldemar Anton admitted: 'We need to improve in attack. Right now it is simply not good enough.' Stuttgart, ahead of their home Champions League match against Atlético, lost 0:1 to Hamburg thanks to a Miro Muheim goal in the 88th minute. Other results: Elversberg — Augsburg 4:3 (goals from Lukas Petkov, Lasse Günther, Maximilian Rohr and Frederik Schmahl; the team moved up to sixth place), Schalke — Mainz 0:1 (a goal from Philipp Tietz), Werder — Paderborn 2:2 (a brace from Niclas Füllkrug, who has scored in five consecutive Bundesliga matches).
