Political context

Zelensky wrote on X that there are 'no signals from Russia of readiness to end the war' and that its signals 'do not bring peace closer.' He also reported a meeting in Brussels with European Council President António Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen: they discussed assistance for energy and air defense, financial support for next year and European integration. Earlier, US President Donald Trump said that, in his view, Vladimir Putin is more ready to end the war than Zelensky. Independent verification of the sides' statements is difficult due to the ongoing war.
