Djokovic to play in Basel
The organizers of the ATP 500 tournament in Basel announced on Friday, October 16, 2026, that Novak Djokovic has accepted a wild card to compete in the event at the end of this month. The 39-year-old Serb is fighting for a spot at the ATP Finals in Turin. For Djokovic, this will be his first appearance in Basel since 2011, when he played the tournament for the third and, until now, last time.
Position in the race to Turin
The holder of 24 Grand Slam titles is 11th in the race to the ATP Finals, where only the top eight players qualify. The tournament in Turin will run from November 15 to 22. Djokovic is a seven-time champion of the ATP Finals. Earlier in October he won the 102nd title of his career in Beijing, but then lost his opening match at the Masters in Shanghai.
Calendar changes
After the defeat in Shanghai, Djokovic said that the Masters in Paris in early November would be his only tournament before the Finals. He was also scheduled to take part in the Six Kings Slam exhibition tournament in Saudi Arabia next week, but the event was moved to late December following several deadly attacks carried out by Yemeni Houthis.
Qualification for Turin
So far, only Alexander Zverev and Carlos Alcaraz have guaranteed their participation in Turin. World No. 1 Jannik Sinner, who had also secured qualification, ended his season early due to a knee injury, leaving six spots at the season-ending tournament vacant.
