The Brand's Second Resort in Portugal

The wellness retreat brand Shanti-Som, which first opened in Marbella in 2011, is preparing to launch its second resort — Shanti-Som Algarve in the Portuguese region of the Algarve. The opening is scheduled for February 2027. According to Euronews, the retreat will be housed in a restored 19th-century farmhouse surrounded by four hectares of orange and almond groves. It is about a 20-minute drive from Faro Airport.

Concept and Comment from the Manager

The new retreat has 22 rooms. Hotel manager Ofeli Acris described the concept as follows: 'We see Shanti-Som as a hybrid of a holiday, a private wellness club and a fitness centre.' According to her, guests can fully switch off from their worries, yet leave with practical tools that help them feel stronger, healthier and happier. She added that the experience is tailored to each person's needs — whether it's better sleep, strength, a reset or a pause from everyday demands. The goal of the programs is to build simple habits that guests will keep after they leave.

Six Programs, Two Exclusive

Guests will be offered six structured programs: relaxation, yoga, pilates, detox, as well as 'strength and fitness' and 'burnout and nervous system recovery' — the last two will be exclusive to Shanti-Som Algarve. The 'strength and fitness' program is aimed at those who, with age, want to focus on longevity, bone density and muscle strength: it includes individual training sessions, reformer pilates, guided hikes and a full medical check-up with a nutritionist consultation. The burnout and nervous system recovery program includes breathing practices, guided meditations, sound therapy, contrast hot-cold therapy and sessions with a life coach.

Infrastructure and Surroundings

The resort grounds will feature a wellness area with an infinity pool, sauna, hammam, ice plunge and gym, as well as separate cabins for massages and facial treatments. All programs operate on a full-board basis, and guests choose the length of their stay themselves. Near the retreat are the beaches of Praia da Falésia and Praia da Marinha, as well as the Ria Formosa lagoon. Euronews notes that the opening comes amid the growing popularity of wellness retreats, where resorts increasingly use methods such as hyperbaric chambers and cryotherapy — Shanti-Som, according to the outlet, offers a different, simpler approach.
