A Cruise for Pan Am's Centenary

Cruise line Holland America Line is organizing the Pan Am 100th Anniversary Legendary Voyage, timed to the 100th anniversary of the legendary airline. The 28-day cruise will depart from Miami (Florida) on October 30, 2027 and follow part of Pan Am's historic routes through the Caribbean and Central America.

Words from the Organizers

"Pan Am helped redefine what it means to travel, turning the journey into an experience filled with discovery, connection and a special atmosphere," said Paul Grigsby, vice president of itinerary planning and development at Holland America Line. According to him, the cruise will combine elements of Pan Am's history with Holland America Line's signature services — "from life on board to experiences in the ports of call."

What Awaits Passengers On Board

The program includes lectures on the airline's culture and history, including from Linda Freire, chair and co-founder of the Pan Am Museum Foundation, and former Pan Am pilot David Kliman. Guests can expect a recreation of the Clipper Club — the private airport lounges that made the brand famous — and special menus in the spirit of Pan Am's in-flight dining: a shrimp cocktail with royal prawns, boiled egg, asparagus and Louis sauce, majordomo-style grilled filet mignon, and a soufflé with Grand Marnier and crème anglaise. Themed cocktails: Pan Am — based on white rum, Campari, orgeat, lemon juice and egg white; Clipper — made with rum, Dolin Blanc and grenadine with lemon zest.

The Route on Land

Passengers will visit Cartagena (Colombia), Colón (Panama), St. John's (Antigua) and Port of Spain (Trinidad and Tobago), where Pan Am-style excursions will take place.

Other Brand Revivals

At the end of last year, JP Hospitality announced the revival of the Pan Am brand for a chain of hotels near airports. Hotel openings are planned in Amsterdam, Berlin, Brussels, Copenhagen, Geneva, Lisbon, London, Oslo, Madrid, Milan, Munich, Paris, Stockholm and Vienna, as well as in Dubai, Bangkok, New York, Tokyo and Sydney. Pan Am Hotels already operates a suite and a lounge in Berlin, styled in a mid-20th-century aesthetic.
