First new products since Amazon's acquisition

Bee, a maker of wearable AI devices acquired by Amazon last year, has unveiled its first new products under the retail giant's wing: the Bee Frontier — the next generation of the device worn on the wrist or clipped to clothing — and the Bee Eclipse, a credit-card-sized device that magnetically attaches to the back of a smartphone.

Pricing and competition

The Bee Eclipse puts the company in direct competition with AI devices like the Plaud Note and Pocket, but at a lower price: the Frontier costs $74.99 versus $159 for the Plaud Note ($189 for the Note Pro) and $129 for the Pocket. The Frontier is available in Onyx, Lavender and Sage, while the $99.99 Eclipse comes in Silver, Midnight, Honey and Blush.

How the devices work

The idea is the same as the original Bee's: AI takes notes of everyday conversations and turns them into tasks, summaries and insights. For example, if you agreed to meet friends, Bee will remember the date and time and create a calendar invitation; the device can also be used for lecture notes or recording a treatment plan discussed with a doctor.

Subscription and integrations

All Bee devices create conversation summaries for free and store 14 days of memory. The Bee Pro subscription at $11.99 per month adds unlimited summaries, integrations with Amazon.com, Alexa+ and third-party apps, task suggestions, "daily memories," a chat assistant and conversation templates. With the Amazon and Alexa integration, you can make purchases or request insights by voice. Bee works with Gmail, Google Calendar and Microsoft Outlook: email drafts, meetings, action items. You can upload photos and connect Apple HealthKit.

Privacy and specs

Bee uses a private computing architecture: no raw audio is stored — sound is processed in real time and deleted. Transcripts are encrypted with keys created and controlled by the device itself, so access to them, including by Amazon employees, is impossible without the user's explicit consent. Optionally, Bee can be connected to Alexa: via Voice ID, Echo recognizes the owner's voice and records conversations for insights; transcripts and summaries can be deleted at any time. Both devices have a single power button and a summarization indicator. The Frontier has IP67 protection, up to seven days of battery life, USB-C charging and two noise-canceling microphones. An updated mobile app and a new desktop app have been released. The Frontier is already available on Amazon; the Eclipse is coming soon.
