The president's instruction at a meeting in Batken
President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov ordered citizenship and passports to be processed for ethnic Kyrgyz within one day. He announced this at a meeting with residents of the city of Batken, as reported by the outlet Zamon.uz.
An appeal from a resident of the Batken district
The reason for the instruction was an appeal from a woman living in the Batken district. She had come from Uzbekistan and married a man of Kyrgyz nationality. The woman told the president that for a long time she had been unable to obtain Kyrgyz citizenship.
"If a person is an ethnic Kyrgyz — within one day"
Japarov instructed the relevant responsible officials to resolve the woman's problem and stated that if a person is an ethnic Kyrgyz, they should be issued citizenship and a passport within one day.
Kairylman status remains
According to the president, ethnic Kyrgyz who arrived from Afghanistan and Tajikistan still hold kairylman status.
