The key facts
- Jetta supplies to Russia have been suspended since 2024; remaining previously purchased cars are being sold
- According to the source, 2023–2024 model year cars are available only in Moscow
- The source attributes the absence of cars to the risk of secondary sanctions due to the Volkswagen connection
The Jetta brand has left the Russian market
The Jetta brand — a joint project of Volkswagen and China's FAW — failed to establish itself on the Russian market, despite its well-known partner and models built on the familiar Volkswagen technical base. This was reported by the publication «Китайские автомобили» (Chinese Cars).
No more cars
“The cars, alas, have long been gone — they ran out, and, as we understand, there will be no more. Jetta is, after all, indirectly Volkswagen. Consequently, we are talking about the risk of secondary sanctions. In St. Petersburg you are unlikely to buy these cars, unless you try your luck in Moscow,” the publication says.
Selling off the leftovers
According to the source, Jetta supplies to Russia were suspended back in 2024, and current sales represent the sell-off of previously purchased cars. According to the publication, the cars can only be found in Moscow, and they are 2023–2024 model year vehicles. Other dealers, the source claims, sometimes come for them and then resell them at a markup.
Context
It was previously reported that the Tenet model became more popular than Lada for the first time.
