Construction of a lake near the airport
Near Tashkent airport, in the Kumaryk mahalla of the Sergeli district, construction of an artificial lake with fountains covering 17 thousand sq. m (1.7 hectares) has begun, the capital's khokimiyat administration reported. The reservoir will be located directly under the aircraft landing approach path. The project is part of a program to create 12 artificial reservoirs in all districts of Tashkent.
Expected effects and landscaping
According to the khokimiyat, the reservoir is expected to help reduce dust, humidify the air and form a more comfortable microclimate in the surrounding area. Residents will be able to relax, walk and play sports. Around the lake, 5 hectares will be equipped with walking, jogging and cycling paths, playgrounds, benches, gazebos and barbecue areas. Currently, work is underway on reinforcement and strengthening of the structure, as well as the construction of a retaining wall.
Progress of work and water supply
Geological reports confirmed that the site meets the requirements for creating an artificial lake. Construction manager Akhtam Khamroev said that by November it is planned to complete the construction of a wall around the lake about 800 m long and to remove soil from the bowl of the future reservoir. According to the khokimiyat, more than 30% of the main work has been completed, with completion planned by the end of the year. Designer Mukhiddin Kholikov noted that since there are no canals or water flows on the territory, the lake will be filled with water from underground wells. "Water will be raised from a depth of 30 m and fill the lake. Automatic sensors will monitor the decrease and increase of the water level," he said. The project provides for the installation of solar panels, as well as water filtration and ozonation systems.
