Construction of the lake in Sergeli
Construction of an artificial lake with fountains has begun in the Kumaryk mahalla of the Sergeli district of Tashkent on an area of 17,000 square meters (1.7 hectares). This was reported by the press service of the capital's khokimiyat. The project is part of an initiative to create 12 artificial reservoirs in all districts of the city.
Goals and infrastructure
According to the khokimiyat, the reservoir should help reduce dust, increase air humidity and form a more comfortable microclimate; on the territory residents will be able to relax, walk and do sports. On the adjacent 5 hectares, walking, jogging and cycling paths, children's playgrounds, benches and barbecue zones will be arranged.
Progress of works
Reinforcement and strengthening of the structure are currently underway, as well as the construction of a protective wall that will hold the water. Construction manager Akhtam Khamroev said that geological studies confirmed the site meets the requirements for building an artificial reservoir. By November, it is planned to complete a wall about 800 meters long and remove soil from the future lake bed. According to the khokimiyat, more than 30% of the main works have been completed; construction is planned to be completed by the end of the year.
Filling and technology
Designer Mukhiddin Kholikov explained that, since there are no canals or watercourses in the district, the lake will be filled with groundwater: “Water will be lifted from a depth of 30 meters and directed into the lake. Automatic sensors will monitor the rise and fall of the water level.” The project also provides for the installation of solar panels, water filtration and ozonation systems.
Context: a lake in Uchtepa
It was previously reported that an artificial lake is being built in the Uchtepa district of Tashkent on a plot of 0.8 hectares. According to ecologists, four trees were cut down at this site, and the damage to nature was estimated at 27.28 million soums (about 2,284 dollars).
